Thermionic Culture The Snow Petrel

Unveil the beauty of your favorite ribbon microphones in the most natural way, revealing sparkling clear highs down to harmonically rich lows. Designed originally for use with the Coles 4038 as a super-clean low noise unit, after extensive field tests in UK, Norway and France, we’ve found it sounds exceptional with ANY microphone including the classic Neumann U 87, perhaps because: We use extra-low noise valves with NO solid state impurities in the audio path, plus VERY special Sowter in and out transformers Input impedance is higher than usual to preserve clarity and can be tailored to individual mics with

Nightingale 2

The Nightingale 2 is a 2 channel mic amp/equaliser and also a mono compressor, based around the now classic Phoenix design, with summing facilities included. The 2 preamplifiers with EQ and the compressor can all be used individually or may be combined in 3 different modes by using the summing section.

Freebird

The Freebird is a 3 Channel valve Equaliser and comes in Thermionic Culture’s half rack design format and has a built-in but detachable power supply. It will work normally as a stand alone unit but if desired The Freebird can be put in a Thermionic Culture 19 inch rack case together with another unit to give 6 channels of EQ, or you can add a different Thermionic Culture half rack unit such as The Nightingale.

Kite

Stereo Equaliser with Attitude and Air.

Purple Bustard

Following on from the phenomenal success of The Fat Bustard summing mixer whose features include Attitude, EQ, stereo width, and of course a big fat sound, we find there’s a demand for a similar warm sounding summing mixer with more channels at a lower price, keeping the unique Attitude control. Enter The Purple Bustard.

Culture Vulture 20th Anniversary Edition

Our Special Anniversary Edition of the Culture Vulture has been designed to have the same characteristics as the original, by using the same “enhancer” (or distortion) valves and the same output valve. The difference is in the Mullard M8100 input valves, replacing EF86. These give more gain with less noise, and improved frequency response.  The 6AS6 “enhancer” valves are also Mullard and the output remains Philips 5963.  All the valves are therefore expected to be extra reliable.

Swift

This two channel equaliser had been designed to be as much at home in tracking individual instruments or sitting across a stereo mix buss to equalise the final mix. As with other units of ours, such as The Phoenix, all controls are clearly labelled and setting up the eq is quick and easy, so we named it after Britain’s fastest bird in level flight.
